Chasing Dreams & Moon Beams
While I was making the selection for Den & Patch's first season, Spring/ Summer'18 collection I was right in the middle of watching the Netflix series Stranger Things. To say I liked it is an understatement, I loved it! The story lines had me glued but what I also loved was the Goonies-esque styling, and the eerie, magical scenery.
I started off on a hunt for an old school American basketball court or like the old gym set ups that I had at school in the early 90's but these are very hard to come by. And I loved the idea of being on location in the outdoors as, I believe, this is where kids have the most fun, exploring & being allowed to run freely.
I had heard a few things about the area of Dungeness. One cold, but luckily sunny afternoon, in January I chucked the girls in the car with sandwiches, flasks and, of course buckets for copious amounts of shell collecting and made our way down for a recce. I was blown away and couldn't believe I hadn't seen this incredible place before. Dungeness sits on a massive expanse of shingle and low-lying marsh land, making it feel like you are walking on the moon. With the nuclear power station sitting on the horizon, abandoned fishing boats, and power cables striking every which way giving it a post-apocolyptic feel . Straight away I new this was the perfect location for the shoot.
On the day of the photoshoot we were absolutely blessed with incredible weather. The kids loved the day being able to explore, and enjoy the awesome scenery. We took base at a friends home just on the sea front where every hour a miniature steam train came by at the bottom of the garden. I would definitely recommend this place for a visit, even though the area is seems baron it's rich in wonderful wildlife, stunning beaches and an adventure is sure to be had by all.
I hope you enjoy the images from the day as much as we did making them.
